A SLIGHT INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT

Ohio's unemployment rate was 4.0% in April, up from 3.8 percent in March, according to figures released Friday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Last month's unemployment was up from 3.4% in April 2023.

OSU RAISES TUITION

If you plan to attend The Ohio State University get ready to dig a little deeper into your wallet. Thursday, the board of trustees voted to increase undergraduate tuition for in state incoming freshman by 3%, and 5% for out of state students.

PEOPLE LOVE TO GAMBLE

U.S. commercial gaming revenue reached a quarterly record of $17.6 billion in the first quarter of 2024, the industry's 13th consecutive quarter of growth, according to the American Gaming Association. Last year, Ohioans wagered over $3.3 billion dollars a jump of 42 percent as compared to 2022.

H2OHIO GRANTS

The state is making $2.2 million in H2Ohio grants available tor more than 250 communities in 78 counties to help pay for equipment needed to maintain public drinking water distribution systems. In Licking County, six communities will share in over $45,000 in H2Ohio grants.

CRACKING DOWN ON RIOTERS

Lancaster State Senator Tim Schaffer has introduced Senate Bill 267, which will hold rioters accountable for their actions and force them to fix or pay for damage they cause while breaking the law. The legislation now awaits committee referral for further consideration.

ARSON IN OHIO

The State Fire Marshal is sending a strong and clear message - Every member of the community holds the key to eliminating the threat of arson.

Josh Hobbs, Chief of the Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau, said up to $10,000 in rewards is currently being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for these acts.
