CRIME STOPPERS

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in two shoplifting incidents in Newark. The Newark Division of Police reports, on Wednesday, March 6, a white male entered the Home Depot on North 21st Street and stole a Dewalt table saw valued at $399. On Tuesday, March 19, a suspect entered Newark Flea Market Antiques on Anthony Drive and stole 6 Xbox 360 games and a Heisey glass horse. The stolen items are valued at $300. Anyone with information on these crimes is urged to call the Licking County Crime Stoppers at 740-349-6888.

OREGON MAN ARRESTED IN LANCASTER

A 36-year-old man wanted by Oregon authorities on sex charges was arrested Thursday by Fairfield County Deputies. According to the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, Philip Mancuso was located at the Lancaster Campground with his current girlfriend and two minor children. Mancuso was apprehended at his trailer without incident and transported to jail where he will await extradition back to Oregon. He faces multiple charges including sex abuse and incest.

A NEW BLOOD CENTER

The American Red Cross is building a new 18-bed Blood Collection Center in Licking County. The $2 million facility will be built in the 200 block of North 21 Street in Newark. With its 18 beds it will be the largest blood collection center in Ohio. The new facility is projected to open in 2025.

DISASTER DECLARATION

President Biden has declared a major disaster in Ohio in response to the March tornadoes that tore through several central Ohio counties. The declaration means federal money will be available to people affected in the 11 counties which includes Licking County. Affected residents can apply for temporary housing and home repair grants and low-cost loans for property losses not covered by insurance and other programs to help them recover from the disaster, according to a news release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

SOLAR PANELS

If you've been thinking about installing solar panels pay attention - Ohio is part of an eight-state coalition that’s been awarded $156 million in federal funding to increase access to solar power. Alyssa Johnson with Power a Clean Future Ohio says in many regions of the state, people are paying more than 30% of their monthly income toward utilities.

Last year the state saw a nearly 14% uptick in residential solar installation.
