FATAL CRASH

One man was killed in a Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 70 in Muskingum County. According to the State Patrol, around 10:30 a.m. a tractor trailer being driven George Brinegar Jr., was traveling east on I70 near US Routes 22 and 40 when it went off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail. The truck overturned and traveled down the embankment. Brinegar, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL

A large crowd attended Wednesday's candlelight vigil at Nationwide Arena to honor and remember Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. The brothers were struck and killed while riding their bikes last week in New Jersey. A moment of silence lasting 13 minutes and 21 seconds was held. The 13 represented Johnny’s jersey number and the 21 represented Matthew’s Boston College jersey number.

DROUGHT IN OHIO

Ohio is currently experiencing significant drought conditions, with nearly two-thirds of the state affected. As of late August, the U.S. Drought Monitor reports that almost 63% of the state is under drought conditions. The most severe conditions, classified as "extreme drought," are primarily affecting Southern and Southeastern Ohio. Approximately 2.7 million Ohioans currently live in drought-affected areas.

LITE THE NITE

The 39th Annual Lite the Nite Car Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9:00am-6:00pm around the Licking County Courthouse Square in downtown Newark.

Annette DuBoe, with the Newark Rodders Club, said registration is $10.

HOMEGROWN COMEDY SHOW

Licking County’s Homegrown Comedy Show hosted by the Licking County Board of Realtors, Buckeye Valley Building Industry Association and the Weathervane Playhouse is right around the corner.

FISH FRY

Newark Kiwanis will host it's annual Fish Fry today at Camp O'Bannon on Butler Road. The menu will feature ocean fried perch, grilled chicken, side dishes, ice tea, lemonade and adult beverages. Ticket is $15 and can be purchased at the door. The social hour starts at 4:30 p.m. with dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the Kiwanis Fish fry benefit Camp O'Bannon.
