***UPDATE***

Some very tense moments today in the Licking Valley School District. Around 11:00am, law enforcement agencies responded to Licking Valley High School and Licking Valley Middle School on a report of an active shooter.  According to Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp, officers found no evidence of any shots fired and everyone is safe. Following protocol, all buildings were swept and are secure. Sheriff Thorp stated that other jurisdictions in Ohio have received the same phone call which activated today's incident at Licking Valley. Students are returning to their respective schools where parents will be allowed to pick up their children. Everyone else is asked to avoid the area.

INCIDENT AT LV SCHOOLS

There is a heavy police presence at Licking Valley Schools following a report of an active shooter situation.  Officials on the scene, say no shots have been fired and no injuries have been reported. Students are returning to their respective schools.  Parents will be allowed to pick up their children at their respective schools.  All others are urged to avoid the area.  We will have more information as it becomes available.

NEWARK MAN CHARGED IN DRUG OVERDOSE

A 31-year-old Newark man has been indicted for allegedly providing drugs to someone who then died from an overdose. Aaron Freeman faces one count each of involuntary manslaughter and corrupting another with drugs in connection with an incident earlier this year in which the person was given fentanyl. Freeman has pleaded not guilty and his bond has been set at $50,000. Freeman does have prior drug, assault and domestic violence convictions.

LOST LANDS

Local law enforcement agencies are reminding folks that the Lost Lands Music Festival is taking place this weekend at Legend Valley Concert Venue on Ohio 13 north of Thornville. You are advised to avoid the area if at all possible as traffic will be very heavy at times between now and Monday.

HUNGER ACTION DAY

September is Hunger Action Month and today is Hunger Action Day. The Food Pantry Network of Licking County said this a great day for folks to take action in the fight to end hunger in Licking County. Food insecurity affects 1 in 5 Ohioans. You can help in a variety of ways from making a monetary donation to starting a food drive.

EHD IN OHIO

Mike Tonkovich, Deer Program Administrator Ohio Division of Wildlife, says the state is dealing with the spread of epizootic hemorrhagic disease.

Tonkovich said EHD is spread to deer through bites from insects like midges and flies.

PATASKALA POWER SHOW

It's late September so that means the Summit Station Lions Club is hosting the Pataskala Antique Power Show this weekend at Foundation Park.

Pataskala Mayor Mike Compton said the free Antique Power Show will also feature food, although, you will have to pay for food and beverages.
