NEWARK MAN INDICTED

A 34-year-old Newark man accused of assaulting his ex-fiance has been indicted. Justin Lord faces one count each of aggravated burglary and domestic violence in connection with an incident in late June. Lord's bond was set at $150,000.

HOLIDAY FATALITIES ARE DOWN

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 10 people lost their lives in 10 traffic crashes during the July Fourth reporting period, which began Thursday, July 3 at midnight and ended Sunday, July 6 at 11:59 p.m. Last year, 16 people were killed during the holiday reporting period. Throughout the holiday reporting period, troopers issued 2,286 safety belt and child safety seat citations. Troopers also made 404 arrests for impaired driving and 73 for drug-related charges.

FLOODING IN TEXAS

The death toll from flooding in Texas has surpassed 100. The majority of those killed were in Kerr County, where 28 children have died. Two dozen people are still missing with a massive search underway involving hundreds of volunteers. Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers and a team from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are heading to Texas to support search, rescue, and recovery work.

NEW DEVIATED FIX ROUTE

Licking County Transit launched its new #5 Buckeye Lake/Hebron deviated fixed route Monday.

Licking County Commissioner Rick Black said Licking County Transit already has two deviated fixed routes running in Newark, and one each in Granville and Heath.

DISPOSING OF TIRES

Licking County Recycling will be hosting a special event in the fall.

Director Andrea Krava said you will be able to drop off ten tires and there will be a fee, which has not yet been set. For updates visit the Licking County Recycling Facebook page.

FREE FANS

Licking County EMA and Licking County Health Department are helping our community stay cool this summer by handing out a FREE box fan today from 9:00-11:30 a.m. at Foundation Park in Pataskala. There is a limit of one fan per vehicle, while supplies last. This is also a great opportunity to donate a new box fan to help others stay cool.
