NEWARK MAN FACES CHARGES

A 35-year-old Newark man with an extensive criminal history is once again facing charges. Jeffery Carpenter has been indicted on multiple charges including two counts of theft and one count of forgery following his recent arrest. Carpenter has prior drug, forgery and theft convictions. He remains held on $75,000 bond.

FRIENDS OF THE LICKING COUNTY LIBRARY

Licking Memorial Health Systems recently presented the Mary Jane McDonald Building a Healthier Community Award to the Friends of the Licking County Library for their efforts with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Robert Hoover, president, Friends of the Licking County Library, said since the program started they have distributed over 334,000 books to local children.

CHRISTMAS TREES FOR TROOPS

The Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Christmas Tree Association are partnering once again to pack and ship Christmas trees for military units stationed overseas. Ohio tree growers donate the trees and volunteers and students from central Ohio will wrap, load, and pack the trees that will be shipped to military men and women for the holidays. The trees will also include homemade decorations provided by school children, churches, and veterans' groups.

HOPE AND BELIEF

A course at The Ohio State University examines the debate between science and faith. The "Biology of Hope and Belief" course provides a platform for students to explore the relationship between scientific understanding and personal belief systems.

Professor Megan Meuti said a key objective is to foster an understanding of what science can explain and what it cannot.

LOOK UP CENTER

The Look Up Center in Newark is in need of donations for its annual Thanksgiving Day meal and they also need drivers to deliver the meals. If you would like to make a donation or volunteer to deliver meals visit www.lookupcenter.org or give them a call at 740-345-6026.
